Embarking on a new diet may sound daunting enough. You're carrying those extra pounds and feel rubbish about yourself. The best thing is you have a clear realisation that something must be done. If you're one of those serial dieters then the dread of embarking on yet another gut-busting, restrictive diet won't appeal. Remember it's not about making radical changes but more about making subtle changes to your lazy lifestyle.
Think back to how you were when you were slim and fit. If you haven't achieved your weight loss goal yet, visualise your ideal. For many people, visualisation may seem pointless. But visualisation and intention must always be followed by action, otherwise visualisation remains just that. An ideal weight you want to reach but never attain. It's important to make an assessment of your body shape or make an appointment with a good personal trainer to assess your current fitness level. Hopefully, knowing that your fat levels are high and something needs to be done will be motivation enough.
However, you also need to consider your diet. The first thing to do is to write down a diet diary. Do it for seven days and document everything that passes by your lips. You may think, the tiny bit of chocolate is harmless but on paper you will be forced to reckon with how many tiny bits of chocolate you consume and will be able to do something about it. The trick here is not to make yourself feel bad. If you have told people, colleagues, friends, loved ones you are planning to lose weight, they may intentionally or unintentionally seek to derail your weight loss efforts by saying something like 'you're allowed a treat a week' or 'a little sweet thing now and again won't hurt you'. Don't cave in to temptation. Especially in the first 4 - 8 weeks, you have to be disciplined with yourself and challenge yourself to be creative with food and prepare tasty dishes.
Good fats are important when you diet. Many diets emphasise the cutting out of fats completely. But the body is unable to function if there are no good fats in the form of say olive oil, tiny quantities of butter, ghee, coconut oil, nuts, seeds and avocado. That does not mean that you can go wild eating these foods in wild abandon. Cut back on the amount of fat you use in your cooking. Your food doesn't need to swim in the oil, it just needs the right amount to flavour and cook your food. Use spray oils and your non-stick pan will become your best friend.
Steam your veggies. Experiment and learn to flavour your food with marinades and spices. Spices and herbs are your answer to enjoying tasty food when you're trying to lose weight.
Just by making these few basic changes to your weight loss plan, you will be on a sure-fire winner to losing weight and achieving the weight you want.
