It may be one of the most visited cities in the world and one that many people want to move to every year, but London can also be a particularly expensive city.
Furthermore, if you've lived or have ever lived in London, you'll be aware of just how easy it is to slip into an unhealthy lifestyle, due largely to the sheer number of eateries that are available which can provide you with cuisines from every different part of the world possible and in ways that mean you can have a fully cooked meal on your plate in a matter of minutes.
Not a recommended way of living, the following five tips will all help if you're looking to save money and increase your fitness levels when living in London.
1. Ditch your Tube pass - OK, this may not be a possibility for everyone, but if you live and work in the actual city of London itself, there's a very good chance that you could save yourself a small fortune over the course of the year by stopping your reliance on the London Underground.
As fantastic of a system as it may be, it can be just as fast to walk between a few stations than it can be to get the Tube, once you've gone through the barrier, down the stairs, to the platform and waited, before doing it all again in reverse on the way out.
2. Make your own lunch for work - buying your lunch in the centre of London is likely to cost you around five pounds a day, equivalent to 1,300 pounds over the year.
A loaf of brown bread, some filling and an apple is likely to cost you five pounds for the week, totalling 260 pounds over the year, not only resulting in you saving over 1,000 pounds, but also meaning you know exactly what's going in to your lunch.
3. Cut down on the after work drink - a popular pastime in London, going for an after work drink might seem like the sociable thing to do, but try and not do it every night - once or twice a week would be acceptable, but as one drink very often leads to two or three, you're likely to be doing your liver a lot of damage if you go for a drink after work on a regular basis, as well as piling on the calories.
4. Stop using the escalator and lift - this is such a simple point, but by taking the stairs rather than using the escalator or lift, you'll find you increase your fitness levels tremendously over the course of just a few weeks.
5. Join one of the many gyms in London - available in abundance, gyms in London are available to suit everyone's individual needs, from those who don't want to spend a fortune to those who need to attend throughout the night and it simply requires a little research to be carried out to find the most suitable gym for you.
Although London might seem like an expensive and unhealthy place to live, it really doesn't have to be, especially if you can take the time to follow these five points.
