As the capital city of England, London is one of those cities that appears to be open, to some extent, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
If you're hungry after you've been to the theatre, you can easily walk into a restaurant and be served a three course meal.
If it's the early hours of the morning, you're stuck in the city and you only know your hotel name, you'll be able to flag down a taxi and be taken straight to your hotel door.
If you're working night shifts but still want to exercise, there'll be a London gym open somewhere, irrelevant of the time of day that you want to attend.
And if you're currently in the process of joining a London gym for the first time, the following three exercises are all fantastic for anyone looking to get started with regular exercise.
1. Jogging - it's a well known fact that walking is a fantastic type of exercise and five 30 minute sessions of brisk walking every week will do you the world of good.
The reason why jogging is often recommended as starter exercise when joining a London gym is that it helps to increase the heart rate and on a psychological basis, can make you get more into the gym frame of mind, making you seem as though you 'fit in' more at the gym.
2. Swimming - if the London gym that you're attending has a swimming pool, it is strongly recommended that you factor swimming into your work out session, something that many people do towards the end of their routine.
One of the best forms of exercise to work out your entire body - as well as a great warm up / down exercise - if you swim as part of your exercise routine on a regular basis, you'll notice a distinct difference in everything from your general fitness levels to your muscle toning on all parts of your body.
3. A specialist class - one of the aspects of joining a London gym that many people don't like is the fact that they struggle to attend regularly due to them not having an interest in exercising and they find the traditional exercises somewhat boring and monotonous.
One way to get round this problem is to attend a specialist exercise class that's tailored to your interests, such as one of the many popular dance classes - salsa-cise or the newer zumba for example - both of which combine dancing with exercising in a fun and enjoyable way.
If you're attending a gym for the very first time, it's completely understandable if you don't actually want to go, but feel like you should because you need to lose weight and increase your fitness levels.
Rather than let your true feelings towards exercise get in the way of what's important - your health - the three exercises mentioned here are all fantastic ones to carry out to help increase your enjoyment level at the gym initially, in the hope that you will keep up your health and fitness routine on a regular basis.
