Hiking is a great way to burn calories that is a fact. If you are looking for a non-stressful way to lose weight and improve your overall fitness, hiking is your key to wellbeing.
Make a schedule, set aside a specific time every week specifically for hiking. This will make it habit and everybody knows the best way to a healthy body is through healthy habits.
You can even invite your spouse or significant other along with you. You know what they say a healthy couple is a happy couple.
However some people will prefer to hike alone using this time, not only to become more physically fit, but to also spend some time out in nature reflecting and meditating.
Meditation is a great way to lower your stress level, combine that with walking in nature and you have a surefire date with a stress free day. Studies have shown that stress levels are closely related to weight gain.
The physical exertion of hiking and the mentally refreshing meditation time in nature is a one, two knock out against stress and weight gain. So get out there and find some where you enjoy hiking.
Choose hikes that are comfortable for you, the kind with scenery that you find appealing and that is not treacherously beyond your comfort level. If you exert yourself too hard on your first hike you may be discouraged from hiking again. Remember that hiking should be a relaxing experience, think of it as an escape from the stresses of the everyday grind. If you can find the joy in hiking and apply it to a regular schedule, you will be walking your way to fitness in no time at all.
There are a few things you will want when hiking to make it a bit more comfortable, shoes and water. Shoes are relatively inexpensive to buy, depending on the quality and brand.
It is good to have some sturdy shoes that won't fall apart, none of these sandals or slip-ons those simply won't do. Then you will want to make sure that they are comfortable for you as well, you may even try buying additional gel pads for the inside or your shoes.
Next water, some people are fine with carrying a water bottle around with them everywhere they go, some people prefer camel-packs, choose according to your own discretion. Personally I would recommend the camel-pack this leaves your hands free and could be considered more comfortable.
Whether it is by bottle or pack, water is a very important part especially if you are looking to lose weight. If you can take hiking and make it routine, drink plenty of water and start eating healthy you will be on the fast track to fitness central.
