For most people around the UK, the thought of starting to work out and lose weight will have crossed their mind at least once. Some people won't actually need to lose weight but will want to increase their fitness levels, others will need to lose a few stone and get fitter and there are plenty of people who will be at their physical peak, but who want to ensure that they maintain this level of fitness.
The problem that a lot of people have with getting fit and healthy is that they are put off straight away as they think it's going to cost them a small fortune.
The truth is that this is often nothing more than a myth and although leading a healthier lifestyle can mean you have extra outgoings, they don't have to be substantial and the following information explains just how you can get fit and healthy without breaking the bank.
1. Get a free gym pass - easier than you're likely to first believe, most gyms distribute the occasional free gym pass directly to people who have expressed an interest in their facilities or to existing members to pass on to friends.
They may not entitle you to a year long membership, but it wouldn't be surprising if you occasionally grabbed yourself a 30 day free gym pass.
2. Drink water - as much as this may sound like common sense, most people don't drink enough water, with the recommended daily amount being two litres, which is approximately four pints.
There are numerous benefits to drinking two litres of water each day, but the primary one in terms of health and fitness is that if you coincide your water intake with or after a meal, you'll find that you feel fuller for longer and don't have the urge to snack before your next meal.
3. Take up walking - one of the best forms of exercise you can undertake, as well as being arguably the cheapest, 30 minutes of brisk walking five times a week is a fantastic starting point for anyone looking to begin exercising regularly.
And the beauty of it is, you can do it by simply stepping out of your front door and walking for 15 minutes before turning round and walking back home.
4. Look at gyms - a lot of people are put off by joining gyms, as they think they're going to have particularly high membership fees. It's always advisable that you take a look at a number of local gyms, as you might just be surprised at how affordable they can be, especially if you can be flexible on certain aspects, such as the time of day that you can attend.
5. Learn to cook - one of the areas where people fall down with getting fit and healthy is in the kitchen, as they find it easier to grab a takeaway or heat up a microwaveable meal rather than cook something themselves.
With just a few basic cooking skills, however, such as boiling pasta and cooking a chicken breast, you'll be able to put together a range of healthy meals every night, which are also likely to work out to be considerably cheaper than relying on takeaways or microwaveable meals.
Getting fit and healthy doesn't need to be expensive and by following these five points, you can ensure that you don't break the bank when you start to increase your health and fitness levels.
