It doesn't really matter what age you are or indeed what shape you are, when you look in the mirror, you only see what you want to see. Nothing seems that bad, despite the bumps and bulges, you probably think that you are not in too bad a condition.
This is obviously a case of looking through rose tinted glasses as statistically speaking more and more people fall into the group classified as being overweight. This in itself simply means that you are above the generally accepted weight for your height and resolving this problem need not be too difficult.
The best thing to do is to take a good look at your lifestyle in general to see if there are any areas that give you a clue as to why you have put on weight. The most common cause is basically the type of food that you eat, and the fact that you more than likely don't do any discernible exercise.
The most popular excuse for this is that people don't have time to exercise at the gym or cook a healthy meal every day, but it does not have to be that strict. By simply changing a few things in your daily diet you will find that you will begin to feel a little better about yourself, which in turn can give you the motivation to join a gym.
There is nothing too drastic, as when it comes to both food intake and exercise, your body likes the changes to be slow rather than having to cope with crash diets and mad bursts of exercise. Start with the easy things like changing from whole milk to semi skimmed milk or even better skimmed, it really is not that difficult.
If you like a drink, just cut your intake down a little and you will be amazed the difference that it will make, especially if you can also drink more water. If your lunch at work consists of a pre packed sandwich and crisps, try to make your own sandwich, that way you can control what actually goes into it like maybe low fat spread instead of butter.
If you enjoy a cuppa, try to have it without sugar as this will reduce your calorie intake and make it easier for your body to use up the excess energy that it stores as fat. Every little thing that you change will ultimately make you feel better about yourself and help with your exercising. It is important when you go to the gym not to go at it like a bull in a china shop, as this will only have a detrimental effect. If you overdo it the first time you are going to find any excuse not to go back again and so fall back into your old ways.
The answer is always to start at a pace that you are comfortable with, and progress only when you are comfortable. The staff at the gym will be highly trained, and will therefore be able to help you should you have any questions regarding diet or the best exercises for you.
You will find that it is a little hard at first, but once your body gets used to the few simple changes, it will start to repay you. The small changes that you have made to your food intake along with the fact that you are following a regular exercise regime at the gym will lead to you feeling a great deal better about your new lighter self.
