Since we were kids everyone loved to jump rope, but by the time we hit adolescence it seems that most of us have stopped. Jumping rope is loads of entertainment and is a wonderful way to stay fit.
The repetitious bouncing off the toes gets your cardio elevated and strengthens your leg muscles immensely. Plus the act of rhythmic jumping also creates a higher level of muscle control, not only in your legs but throughout your entire body.
Jumping rope is a low intensity work out. So it is best used to increase endurance and strip unwanted body fat.
When you are keeping your body tense to avoid the rope from hitting your feet, you are flexing every muscle in your body. This is a great way to burn calories and tone your legs.
There are many different methods of jumping rope, without getting to complex here are a few: the double leg hop, the jog jump and the behind the back. Of course practiced jump-ropers will incorporate more sophisticated tricks into their routines like the crisscross or the one leg.
The double leg hop is the most common and is a little more intensive than the jog jump. Keeping your legs together you jump off of both at the same time to avoid disrupting the ropes path.
The double leg hop will tone your legs buns and thighs; however it is a little more strenuous than the jog jump. The jog jump is where you mimic the act of jogging lifting one leg while dropping the other to avoid contact with the rope.
The affect will be a controlled and balanced jog like routine, this exercise you can do for hours on end. It is wonderfully useful in increasing endurance, strengthening your cardio and burning carbs.
Then there is the behind the back, it will have the same effect as the double leg hop though just requiring a little more control. Practicing these different methods of rope jumping, you will find that each has a different rhythm and dynamic.
It is good to switch between different types of jump rope techniques to get the most out of your work out. Once you are ready you will be incorporating tricks like the crisscross and one leg jump, but don't get ahead of yourself.
Jumping rope is easy and fun and you can do it from the humiliation-free space of your own home. All you have to do is find a clear area or clear an area big enough for you to jump in place and for your rope to swing around you.
