Getting fit and healthy is something that everyone thinks about at some point throughout their life, whether it's in the form of needing to lose weight and slim down or it's to maintain their healthy lifestyle.
London gyms offer the perfect environment for most to meet their health and fitness goals, irrelevant of what the person's own individual goals may be, their needs or where they're located in London.
Although going to London gyms can seem like quite an easy thing to do - and in most senses, it is - there are several aspects that need to be understood and kept in mind at all times to ensure that you don't commit any gym faux pas, with the three below being arguably the most prominent faux pas when it comes to joining and exercising in London gyms.
1. Not everyone is as sociable as you - if you're a sociable person, going to the gym can initially seem like the perfect environment to meet people and in some respects, it is.
However, you need to understand that some people go to London gyms to purely work out. They don't go to chat with other members of the gym, they don't go to socialise in any way and they go purely to get changed, workout for two hours, have a shower and then go home.
No one is saying that you have to refrain from talking to anyone at the gym, but don't try and force a conversation on someone - if you try and they give you the cold shoulder, don't take it personally and just walk away.
2. Always wear clean clothes - it's always worthwhile investing in new clothes for the gym, but it's important that you keep them clean at all times.
It's understandable that you're going to get hot and sweaty and this is acceptable - it's when you have worn your trainers, for example, outside of the gym and bring any mud or dirt onto the gym equipment when it becomes unacceptable.
3. Share and share alike - when you first go to the gym, it's highly likely that you'll spend your first few weeks trying out all of the different pieces of exercise equipment that are available, similar to a child in a sweet shop.
After the first few weeks have passed, you're likely to find that you prefer to exercise on a small selection of different pieces of equipment, restricting your work out session to solely this equipment.
Although this is acceptable when the gym is particularly quiet, when it gets to peak time and everyone is there exercising, it's important that you don't stay on one piece of equipment for your entire session or even the majority of your session.
What's more, don't try and 'claim' one piece of equipment by putting your towel or bag on it or make a queue next to a piece of equipment you want to use - try a different piece of equipment every so often and use the one you want to use when it becomes free.
No one wants to look out of place or embarrassed in any environment and these three gym faux pas can all be easily avoided by spending just a little time learning and understanding basic gym etiquette.
