Looking to start exercising while in London? Take a browse through these five steps to introduce you to regular exercise perfectly.
1. Get into the habit of stretching morning and night - one of the most important parts of exercising is stretching, as without stretching, your muscles don't get the preparation they need for the work out, making them more susceptible to injury.
For those people who are only just being introduced to regular exercise, their muscles aren't likely to be as supple as someone who has been exercising regularly and so a good practice is to carry out some basic stretches on a morning and night, to loosen them up and ready for future exercising.
2. Take up jogging - one of the most popular types of exercise, as well as one of the cheapest, is jogging and what's more, it's a fantastic way to get into the habit of exercising regularly.
Able to be carried out anywhere in the world, all you need is a comfortable pair of trainers and away you go, whether you go for a jog in your back garden, your local park or on your way to a London gym.
3. Set time aside to exercise - an area where a lot of people fall down on when it comes to exercise is that they don't structure their exercise time properly, meaning that they only attend a London gym as and when they get the opportunity to.
Be pencilling time into your diary on a weekly basis for exercise, you'll find that you start to organise your life around it and attend at the times that you have put aside, making your exercise time regular and structured, something that most people require to achieve the desired results from their exercise routine.
4. Stop relying on the Tube - as fantastic of a service as the London Underground - also known as the Tube - may be, it can make you somewhat of a lazy person if you come to rely on it extensively.
Although there's no doubt the Tube should be used when you're travelling on certain journeys, if you're only travelling in the local area, it's always worthwhile checking to see if it is actually easier - and quicker - to walk.
This might sound strange to some, but the truth is for certain routes, it is in fact quicker to walk than take the Tube once you take into account getting into the station, to the platform, waiting for the Tube to come along, travelling and then carrying everything out again in reverse.
5. Take the stairs - simple and straightforward, London is a very compact city and it has been built upwards rather than outwards for many years now, meaning stairs and lifts are common place.
While it's understandable that a lift is the only real option in some instances, it's always a great idea to take the stairs where possible, as although it might only seem like a small technique, climbing stairs is a fantastic way to stay fit and healthy.
Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is a must for anyone and although living in London can mean you rely on various services a lot which can take away a certain level of health and fitness, it's always important that you maintain a healthy lifestyle and exercise regularly, something that these five steps help you to do if you're just starting out.
