Many people skip breakfast on a regular basis. Whether it is because they don't feel hungry first thing in the morning, they don't have time, or they just don't care, they still skip it.
However, skipping breakfast is a very unhealthy choice, especially if you are trying to lose weight. Eating a healthy breakfast daily is a great choice for your health and energy level, and has many different benefits.
Did you know that your metabolism doesn't start for the day until you eat? The earlier you eat breakfast in the morning, the sooner your metabolism starts working; this really boosts weight loss!
Even if it is just a few Triscuits or an apple, eating first thing in the morning is a great choice. If you skip breakfast that means your metabolism isn't starting until you eat lunch.
This means you are missing out on approximately four hours of digestion (250 calories an hour, 1,000 a day) which really adds up fast. After one week, you miss out on 28 hours (7000 calories), and after one month you miss 124 hours (31,000 calories).
That really adds up quickly. Breakfast is such an important meal; you really can't be skipping it.
Many people get really tired and fatigued in the middle of the day, even when they get enough sleep. Some people rely on supplements and caffeinated beverages to get them through the day, but there is a more healthy option available.
Eating a well-rounded breakfast is the trick to making your energy levels stay consistent throughout the day, without the burn-out at three in the afternoon. One of the downsides of using a chemical energy booster (like 5 Hour Energy) is that after the initial energy boost, you crash.
The chemicals simply concentrate your energy to be used all at once, and then you are left so tired that you turn into a potato. Instead, increase your overall energy levels by eating a well-balanced breakfast, which is the key to having high energy levels throughout the day.
What does a well-balanced breakfast consist of? Well, any good meal should include food items from at least 4 of the food groups.
For breakfast time, a good example of this would be a fruity parfait, whole grain bread with jelly or jam, and an omelet made of eggs, bell peppers, onions, and cheese. This breakfast provides a good balance of flavor and hot vs. cold for the morning, along with items from 5 different food groups: fruit, dairy, protein, bread, and vegetables.
However, if you don't like these foods, there are other foods you can eat that are high in nutrition. Some good ways to add fruit to your breakfast is to eat fruit salad, yogurt with fruit chunks, fruit pizza, or simply fresh fruit.
To add dairy to your breakfast you can have cereal with milk, yogurt, cheese, or just have a tall glass of milk. To add protein, you have a variety of choices.
You can eat bacon, sausage, Canadian bacon (fried ham), eggs in any form (poached, scrambled, fried, boiled), and some of you may enjoy steak for breakfast. There are so many options available for having a well-balanced breakfast.
In conclusion, breakfast really is the most important meal of the day. Breakfast has so many benefits for weight loss, including getting your metabolism going and boosting your energy level.
There are many simple ways you can choose healthy food for your breakfast, and they aren't all gross either. You can do what it takes to start being healthier and eating a well-balanced breakfast.
