Many people reach for a soda pop or an energy drink when they are thirsty. However, this is a nasty habit.
There is a much better choice out there: water! It is very good for you, and most people do not drink enough of it.
Why should you reach for water instead of something else? Well, when your body tells you that you're thirsty, it is asking for water specifically.
Other drinks may fill the need, but most of the time they do more than that- many times, soda pop or other beverages contain unwanted items like carbs, fat, and sodium. These items are all things that you should be moderating with your food intake; you don't want to add beverages to the list.
Many people make the mistake of over-eating. It's understandable, but preventable.
Every time you feel thirsty, if you were to drink a glass of water and wait fifteen minutes first, you would eat much less often. Often times, people mistake thirst for hunger.
They have very similar signals, so it's sometimes difficult to distinguish the two. However, drinking water first helps eliminate the confusion.
That way, if you really aren't hungry, you won't be taking in unneeded food, and if you are hungry, you just got one glass of your daily water intake out of the way. Speaking of daily water intake, did you know that you are supposed to drink 8-10 glasses of water each day?
Most people fail at reaching this goal. However, there are many benefits to drinking lots of water each day.
Some of these benefits include softer and smoother skin, increased weight loss, clearer eyes, softer lips, better (and quicker) digestion, and better health overall. The moisture of the water extends to the skin, eyes, and lips, and that is how it makes everything softer.
This is the equivalent of putting on lip balm or lotion, only it is healthier and more natural. It increases weight loss by improving the digestion process.
Increased water drinking also helps your body to realize that you have a large supply of water and it no longer needs to retain as much water-weight. Another benefit to drinking water is that it relieves head and back aches.
Most people's pain in these regions is caused by dehydration. The obvious solution is to rehydrate!
Drinking water will make your head and back feel better, and work better too. Your brain is mostly made of water, so drinking water increases brain power.
Water also prevents sprains and cramps. Water lubricates your muscles and joints, so they can be more flexible and handle more pressure.
Another plus is that water prevents cancer, by diluting cancer-causing agents. Isn't water great?
Water is an essential part of our lives and our bodies. If you increase your daily amount of water intake, you will reap so many benefits. Destry Masterson is a health, fitness and nutrition expert.
