Zumba: The New Fitness Craze

When you hear the word "Zumba", what do you think of? Some of you might think, "What is that?"

Maybe you're thoughts are similar to those of many young adults and teens such as, "what a great way to exercise", or "a good break from my treadmill"! Whatever you're thoughts are about Zumba, it is a great way to exercise.

Zumba, as some of you may know, is a Latin-based dance class that many places offer for free. Some of the primary moves include shaking your buttocks, waving your arms around, and body rolls.

Classes usually last an hour. These classes are fun because there are usually a lot of people there, so you are likely to run into somebody you know.

Another great thing about this dance style is the music you can dance to. While it is primarily Latin-based, the only real requirement is a good beat.

Some dance instructors create choreography to popular songs played on the radio. Any Zumba class could have any sort of variety of music for you to dance to.

Zumba also has many health benefits. Because it requires such vigorous work, you really feel tired and exhausted by the end of the hour.

One hour of Zumba dancing burns a whopping 800 calories! It also tones your glutes and abs.

Zumba is also great for starting up a fitness program if you are out of shape. You don't need any dance experience or special training for this class.

Many people feel dumb or silly when they go to this class because some of the dance moves are a little unusual for the American culture. Because of these qualities, Zumba is a very low-pressure way to end your sedentary lifestyle and get exercising again.

Zumba also has its own clothing style. The most popular things to wear for these classes are clothes with some kind of fringe or little strings hanging from it.

This is because you are moving around so much that these will shake around and move a lot. This style of clothing is also made from fabrics that breathe well.

This is a very vigorous class, so light clothing is a must. However if you decide you want to decline on wearing the Zumba clothing, this is okay. Many people just wear sweat pants or shorts, with a T-shirt or tank top.

Make sure you are taking the time to decide what you want to wear before you go to Zumba class. It can be hot and sweaty at times.

So why is it that so many people have gotten into this Zumba craze? It's because it is a fun way to exercise effectively and efficiently, while having fun with your friends and listening to the music you all love.

In one hour you will have toned your muscles, burned lots of fat and calories, and had a blast while doing it! Zumba is a great fitness program.

Everyone should try it at least once. It's a very motivating class and it has great results too.
