Exercising With Disabilities

Many people struggle with health problems, and they let these keep them from exercising and being healthy. However, that is no longer an excuse; there are ways to exercise and stay safe and healthy.

Many people want to exercise but believe they are unable to because of their health problems. Other people don't want to exercise, and use their disabilities to excuse themselves from vigorous activities.

However, there are many safe ways to exercise around your disabilities. This means that the excuses are gone and you need to get your health back into check.

If you have a bad back, you may feel that exercise is difficult and you are very limited. However, many doctors recommend exercise as a way to relieve pain, specifically swimming.

The pressure of the water is equal everywhere, thereby lowering the risk of injury. It also puts pressure on all of your muscles, helping you to strengthen all of them.

Another plus is that swimming is fun! You get to cool off in a giant pool of water with your friends and family.

If you live in a climate where swimming isn't practical, then grocery shopping is still effective. You may say that grocery shopping isn't exercise, but it is!

You spend maybe 2 hours just walking around and adding various products to your cart. When you do this, you are also working your muscles and stretching your legs, making your joints nice and happy.

Another common ailment that people use as an excuse to remain sedentary is Asthma. This just means that your exercise has to be less vigorous, not that you can't at all.

You can go on walks, grocery shopping, and (if you take your medicine as a pre-emptive measure) you can even go swimming. Also, doctors recommend exercise as a way to control your asthma and lessen the severity or take it away all together!

Asthma is no excuse to be lazy. Rather, it's a reason to exercise more.

Overweight: many people struggle with this. Ironically this is caused by leading a sedentary life, and people use it as an excuse to avoid the cure, exercising.

Being overweight is difficult, and it also makes exercising much more of a hassle. You have to find clothes in the right size, you may even feel embarrassed to start a new exercise program because all of the other participants have been there longer and aren't struggling with the same thing.

However, there are solutions to these problems! You can buy a treadmill or an elliptical machine and maybe pick up the pace at home until you feel comfortable with exercising in public.

There are other options available too. Gold's Gym offers a woman's only section; there are only women allowed and no windows for men to look through, so the number of people "staring" at you is decreased.

If that's not enough, then you can also figure out what times the gym is the least crowded, and you can exercise with more privacy. There are options to overcome all of these difficulties if you have the motivation.

In conclusion, there is always a way to be more active and overcome your problems. It's simply a matter of finding a solution that works for you.

Whether it is grocery shopping or getting on the treadmill, you can find a way that works for you to be healthy.
