Playing games is a great way to stay in shape; it takes the tedious monotony out of boring old gym exercises. That's why baseball is one of the most widely spread sports in all America.
The 1850s "national pastime" is a bat and ball sport that requires quite a few men to play. Usually, if you want to play standard rules, you need at least like sixteen guys to play.
But if you are just messing around you can get a handful of guys, find a bat and a ball, set some rocks for bases and you all set to play. The game is played by the ball being hurled toward the batter, and the batter attempting to hit the ball.
If there is sufficient contact made between the ball and bat, generally the ball will soar through the air. If this happens the batter then drops the bat and becomes a runner.
The objective is to steal bases; you do this by getting to a base before the ball is to the base. So if the runner is running form the batters mound to first base and the ball get there before he does he is then out.
This running is a wonderful form of cardiovascular exercise, and will help to strengthen and improve your heart. Strengthening your heart will consequently strengthen all the other organs in your body and even other muscles as well.
If the runner makes it to all three bases and back to home, he then is awarded one point. However, if he receives an out it is someone else turn to bat.
Batting is a wonderful triceps work out, holding the handle of the bat you swing with as much force as possible to direct the ball in the exact opposite direction it came. Besides being a good work out, this simple exercise is also curiously fun and addicting to perform.
If the batsman misses the ball he receives a strike, after three strikes he is given an out. After there have been three outs the teams will switch side.
The men that were protecting the plates and outfield and also pitching will now go and strenuously wait for their turn to bat. Once both teams have had a chance to bat they call that portion of the game an inning.
The game is traditionally played for nine innings, unless the score is tied at the end of the ninth. That will result in necessary over time.
When playing at home you can play for however many innings you would like. Whether it is for one inning or a hundred is up to you.
Also simple catch is a great deal of fun too: where you pass the ball between two people, ideally between father and son, perhaps while exchanging conversation. You can play catch with your brothers, old schoolmates, or even neighbors if so desired. Destry Masterson is a health, fitness and nutrition expert.
