I personally have never eaten at Five Guys; I maintain that it's for good reason too. Just looking at the nutritional facts in one of their meals can give you a heart attack, and eating there... well that's just asking for trouble.
I looked at their fries and thought, "Wow those look absolutely terrible". So I bought an order of large fries and took them to my lab for testing.
I had some questions; so I took the mass in grams, which is around 560 grams [1.2 pounds] give or take depending on the cook, and I burned them at my closely monitored temperature, the answers that I found began to frighten me. In this seemingly harmless side order of fries there were 1500 calories, of which 600 were from fat.
What is worse we all know potatoes hold no nutritional value. These fries are basically a good way to eat grease on a stick of starch.
Against my own will I continued my search for answer, and the truth that I revealed reviled me even further than I might have imagined. Within these fries there were around 80 grams of fat; I know a lot of you have no idea how much a gram is so I will convert it for you...that is about 4 ounces of fat.
For you men out there that do not know what the heck an ounce is: four of them is the equivalent to half a cup. So let's retrace our steps, there is a half a cup of fat in a serving of Five Guys fries.
It is good that there are all those nutrition-less sticks of fries to hold all that fat, if you tried to take it straight your body's gag reflex would definitely reject it all over the dining table... I'm talking about vomiting.
But don't worry only fourteen grams of that fat is actually saturated. Saturated fat is the type that goes into our arteries and plugs them up.
Though you may not know it, clogged arteries are very bad. There are a few health risks directly associated to it: there are blood clots; these cause death so be careful, and it will also raise your cholesterol and this will raise your heart rate, which could result in a heart attack, which can also be fatal.
Truthfully eating fries at fat guys won't kill you... not instantly anyway. But if you have a habit of eating such foots of the like, you may find that you are shaving some years off your life, which may concern some people. Destry Masterson is a health and nutrition expert.
