Many people enjoy pets, and for good reason too. These lovable creatures we keep around are great from many things, whether it is for barking when neighbors or friends approach your house, or for getting the newspaper if you are a hundred years old and still read documents on paper, or just for basic company.
Studies have shown that people that have pets have a number of benefits directly associated with that. There are the obvious benefits of have a dog: walk him and you will walk yourself at the same time plus they are fun to have around.
A study, done by the University of Minnesota, showed that having a pet dog was connected to having low blood pressure. When the experiments were conducted they found that a dogs company actually did lower blood pressure.
In 1999, the American geriatrics society published a journal documenting that people with pets were found to have a mental well-being well above those who had no pets. And in a three year study with over 5,000 participant subjects: people with pets had much lower cholesterol and blood pressure.
The findings could not be identified in difference between smokers, weight, or socioeconomic profiles. That is pretty astounding to me.

Apparently, [according to the University of Minnesota] if you own a cat, your chances of dying from cardiovascular disease will decrease by 30 to 40 percent.
Owning a cat will change your entire cardiovascular system, thus lowering your chance for a heart attack. Cats also boost immune system.
Studies have shown that mental attitude plays a huge role in illnesses, and because cats can sense when you are ill, they will do their best to comfort you and get you better while you are in ailment. Cats also help decrease the chance of developing allergies.

Asthma and allergies are directly related; when we are young we develop many immune responses. If we are introduced to cat and mite pollen or dander or hair or whatever it is that causes the allergy, we build an immunity to that that actually helps us from ever becoming asthmatic.
