Balance board, it sounds like it is used for a game. Well it certainly could be, but this is actually used for a new age work out with some astounding health and fitness contributions.
If you have never tried one, they are simple enough to understand. It is a board placed on a ball or a cylindrical tube, making a fancy indoor fulcrum meant to be stepped and stood upon.
Yes the first few times you try this it will be hard to balance. Many people never really need to demonstrate an excessive amount of balance throughout their daily routines.
Even so, balancing will aid you in many ways. To balance we have to use specific core muscles throughout our body.
These core muscles support our spines and joints, and even though we may not realize it, they do a lot for us. By increasing your balance you will also benefit the circulatory system.
This will help your heart to pump blood to all your muscles making them easier to control. Which is what we all want right?
By attaining better balance we decrease the risk for scoliosis and osteoporosis; the scoliosis because the muscles will support the bones and joints, which will relieve tension and strain. The osteoporosis will be prevented because the increased blood flow will carry nutrients necessary for bone maintenance. There are a few different types of balance boards available on the market. The first is the classic surfer style board, which is the most popular. This one is shaped like a miniature surfboard; it is about 30 inches long and 20 inches wide. It is placed on a tubular mass made of some sturdy silicon or plastic.
This is a fun way to watch TV and to perform a light cardio exercise at the same time. This is what my wife does when she watches the news, after she has already gone on her morning jog.
There are a lot of other types of balance boards available: there is the wobble board, the weeble boards, the tri-level wobble. Each of these has a unique design consequently affecting different muscles to different extents.
The smaller weeble boards come in pairs and are meant to be stood on one under each foot. Doing this and performing squats is an extremely effective way to stay in shape and keep your body in peak physical condition.
High tension exercises like the squat, burn a load of calories and build lots of muscle. When you incorporate that with balance boards it distributes the muscle building tension throughout all the core muscles of your body. Destry Masterson is a health, fitness and nutrition expert.
