Elderly Exercises At Home

Every year there are 300,000 cases of elderly people being hospitalized. Hospitalization occurs mostly because of them accidently falling over. If you know of an elderly person that is at risk of falling or you yourself are elderly and fear that you may take a debilitating tumble, be calm there is hope that you can regain or even improve your balance.

Balance can be affected by manning things. For instance eye sight can be a big part. If we can see where the heck we are we won't know how the heck to stay up.

A huge player in balance is your vestibular nerve. This is found in your inner ear it is filled with fluids that measure where your head is in space.

As we age our hearing and ear functioning go, regrettably contributing to loss of balance. It's not that these old people are lazy and careless, oh quite contrary to that indeed.

The fact of the matter is at any given time these old people are trying their best to not fall over. It takes a great deal of concentration and awareness for them to do this.

This makes it even more impressive, because these elderly usually have very little ability to concentrate and probably less awareness.

But improving or maybe just maintaining the balance you have can be done very simply. All you have to do is start exercising the core muscle of your body. It is easy and it can be done with simple household amenities.

First get some blue masking tape and some slippery soled shoes. Don't worry all these exercise will take place on your carpet where the chance of a harmful fall is... well there is less harm in falling here.

Tape a straight line to the floor. If you cannot do this ask one of your helpful grandchildren. Taping things to floors is extremely easy for children to do so don't be concerned about being a bother to them.

Now with your new line, practice walking back and forth without stepping off of the line. This is a great way to coordinate balance throughout the body.

Plus this is a fun routine. If you desire you could have an old friend mildly interrogate you while you walk so that it seems like a sobriety test. For the record this is also a great game for parties.

You will want a chair (preferably with no arms) this is to perform sitting exercises and also to hold on to while your perform some standing exercises. Remember to go at your own rate with these and don't let anyone pressure you into doing anything you don't feel confident in doing.
