Doing hand stands is very easy, even children can do it. In fact I know many children who do, do it.
They are not doing it to strengthen and broaden their shoulders either. Truth is they couldn't care less of how good an exercise it is for them to perform. They simply do it because it is a fun thing to do.
Common misconception is that the added blood to the head is a bad thing. When the truth is it is actually quite beneficial.
Getting more blood to the brain is good for a healthy brain development and function. In some cases it is actually linked to increased cognitive processes.
Besides being great for your cognitive abilities, it is also greatly beneficial to your pituitary glands. The pituitary gland is a small cherry shaped portion of the brain that controls the hormones in your body.
Without proper pituitary functions the hormones would not be regulated properly. So if you have a little boy that is kind of girly make him do handstands.
And if you have a little girl that is acting like a little boy, flip her upside down till she comes out right. Isn't it interesting that reversing their position may get them all straightened out?
Studies have shown that handstands have actually been found to fight mild forms of depression. What happens is the blood rush to the head releases serotonin which will make you feel happy, and also get your body in the habit of making more of.
Other exercises like jogging and swimming and even bike riding have been shown to help against depression. I always thought it was because these are all just fun to do, as it turns out they actually help deep down at a neurological level.
Despite relieving depression it will also relieve stress, it will calm your thoughts and sooth your mind. Handstands are commonly used in conjunction with meditative practices like yoga and other such practices.
By doing these you do not just straighten out your thoughts, but you align your spine too. It has been shown that handstands have more of an impact on a healthy posture than any other aerobic exercise.
By straightening out your spine you create better flow through your circulatory system. This makes it easier for your heart to do its job and it makes the blood flow more easily as well.
So if you thought that handstands were only for children, I hope you have changed your mind. If you are not ready to start doing handstands in front of people that is fine.
Find a dark corner of your house and start practicing there. You will be confident enough in no time to start doing handstands in the front yard.
