Running is the best way to keep your heart in shape, which is something a lot of people do not think about. Heart attack and heart disease is a rapidly growing problem within western cultures and western society.
Many people are worried about being skinny, but not necessarily being healthy, and others are more or less unconcerned about health altogether. Although I have no say as to how you live your life, I do happen to know a few facts that may preserve or benefit it.
Running is the number one best cardio exercise in existence. This is going to get your body pushing blood easily through your entire circulatory system.
When we have easy blood flow we have healthy organs and tissues. Increased blood flow helps your brain, kidney, liver, and skin. Just about everything that needs blood is benefited by increased blood flow.
And everything in your body does need blood, even your bones are strengthened when you have proper cardio health. I bet you didn't know that.
Running keeps your skin clear, added blood flow to your skin will feed your skin cells with the nutrients and anti-oxidants that it needs to stay clear and healthy. Also running excretes a chemical that prevents aging-I swear no joke.
Many people run for sport. These people may already know all the benefits of running and may desire to learn how to run faster.
Well to do that you have to train your muscles in a unique way. The exercises are called plyometric exercises.
This is where you train your muscles to react fast, and to have powerful reactions. Building muscle mass won't do anything for performance unless you also know how to use those muscles.
I would like see a football game played with body builders, or a race to see who is faster a body builder or a runner. I would also like to see the heart rates of both contestants after the race as well.
That would be interesting to see. I can assure you that the body builder would not stand a chance against a professional athlete.
Luckily plyometric exercises are easy to perform. The tucked knee jump is a good one.
Stand in an area where people won't laugh at your for looking silly. Then jump as high as you can and tuck your legs into your chest, once you hit the ground jump back into the air as fast as you can.
Keep in mind that these exercises are meant to build speed and train muscle contraction, not to build actual muscle mass. These are performance enhancing exercises.
