Morning diet routines are very common, most people get an egg or two to pack them full of iron and wake their body up. Caffeine-packed drinks are pretty common too.
However, many people overlook the importance of a good night time snack. Sleep makes up a good portion of our life, approximately one third to be exact.
With that much of our lives being spent on sleep isn't it important that we do it right. Sleeping is very important for many different things: rebuilding muscles, rebuilding and strengthening neurons in the brain, and giving your body rest lets organs get their steam back.
So what are some good things to eat before sleep? You want to get foods that are not packed with carbs or too much protein; these may give you energy and consequently prevent you from sleeping.
Try to get foods that are high in the sleep inducing chemical known as tryptophan. The most common food with this is turkey.
Have you ever wondered why everyone is so lethargic after thanksgiving dinner? Well one reason is because everyone just overate like a hog, and the other reason is all that turkey is sending tryptophan to their brain.
Eating turkey before bed will relax you because the amount of tryptophan greatly outweighs the amount of protein you get form the succulent poultry. The only problem is, if this becomes habitual night time snack it may result in weight gain.
When we sleep our body's organs and functioning is slowed immensely. That means our digestive system is only working at half capacity.
So foods, instead of getting metabolized, are turned into fat and stored in the body for a later date. This is an evolutionary trait we learned from the primitive Neanderthal; by turning food into fat we can protect ourselves through the winter.
Unfortunately for us and the Neanderthals there were no bathing suits or super models back in primitive time. So storing extra grease was actually desired, and our bodies subsequently adapted according.
So I would suggest a more digestive friendly food, like cottage cheese. This food is packed full of pro-digestive nutrients that are going to help you metabolize like a king.
Cottage cheese is packed full of tryptophan just like turkey, but it also has much less protein and a lot more pro-biotic enzymes. This will help you to keep from adding extra weight and will also get you all relaxed and cozy for bed time.
Drink a cup of warm soy milk with a tablespoon of honey stirred in it. This will knock you out.
You will be on your back unconscious in no time with this night time snack. It's all good for you too. Destry Masterson is a health and nutrition expert. She publishes articles for http://www.dailybread.com and recommends them for food storage.
