The book includes a comprehensive list of foods with recommendations next to them, like "avoid" or "good". This way, you are allowed to enjoy a few of the unhealthy foods you want (in moderation) without destroying your diet.
This diet is based on the theory that carbs and fat are what cause weight gain. By removing them from your body for a while, it resets your cravings and desires to focus on healthier foods like vegetables and lean meats.
When you start to realize what causes your craving and what makes you feel full, you can better understand the messages being sent to your brain and react accordingly. This diet helps with calorie control and allows the dieter to finally have some food freedom.
