If recent studies are to be believed, the UK tops the European league as the country with the most overweight people. It was discovered that almost 25% of the population are in dire straits when it comes to being obese.
The fact that the obesity rate in this country has risen by about 150% in the past 25 years is a sad indictment of the way that some people's lifestyles have changed. These numbers could be reduced, and the trend reversed if people took a little bit more interest in how they are actually living their lives.
In all honesty, there cannot be very many people who would cherish the thought of going on a diet, with all the restrictions that they have. The simple fact is if you are overweight, you do not necessarily need to go on a diet. What you really need to do is to take a good hard look at yourself and at the way that you live your life in general.
When someone decides to go on a diet, by definition it infers that it is something that you will do for a certain length of time. This is not the answer, as short term diets usually mean that you hit whichever target that you set yourself, and then eventually put all of the weight that you lost plus some back on.
The answer is simple; all that you have to do is get your head around the fact that you can enjoy healthier food. Try not to think of it as a diet, think of it more of a lifestyle change, a makeover with the end product being a new you. The first step is always the hardest, but when you have taken it, the road ahead will seem a lot easier to follow.
Once that you have made this transition, if you can maybe then try to add a little exercise, you will be amazed at how quickly you will see some difference. If you don't have the room to exercise at home or you would not feel comfortable doing it there, you can always try your local gym.
Most will offer a free gym pass so that you can test the water so to speak and see if you think that it would be of benefit you. These are usually for a day which gives you plenty of time to try out all of the equipment that these new modern gyms have. It would certainly be worth a try especially as it a free gym pass and not many things in life are free, and who knows you may even take out a membership.
If you can embrace these two simple things and obviously use a little common sense as well then you should be well on your way to seeing the new improved you. Do not expect miracles in the first few days, as good things come to those who wait. As the weeks pass you should find that your body has become used to the new healthier eating and you probably enjoy your exercise sessions, even though you never imagined that you would.
