Everyone who goes to the gym wants to have a good time and be able to use the exercise machines and equipment that they want, when they want. This unfortunately is where the problems start as this is not always the way that it works.
Unfortunately, if for example you live in the capital, this means that the gyms in London have to cope with the largest population in the country, and therefore more people will be jostling for the most popular sessions. If you are a regular gym goer, and you are finding this is happening to you, there are some simple measures that you can take to alleviate the problem.
The first one is simple, just try to avoid the times when the, so called non regular gym goers, seem to overrun the place. This is usually most prevalent just after Christmas and the New Year, as people try desperately to fulfil their resolution to lose a pound or two, or because someone bought them a gym membership as a Christmas gift.
When they have gone the next wave will be the occasional visitors, who never seem to be there at the same time for two days running. Many of these people will have a 9 to 5 job and may well want to call in at the gym on the way home from work, so say between 5-30 and 6-30. Then however, there are those who like to go home first and then come back out to the gym, maybe between 6-30 and 8-30.
These are some of the times that it may benefit you to avoid completely if you want to have a better chance of doing your normal exercise routine. If you can make your visit to the gym a little later than normal the rush could very well be over.
On the other hand if you are an early bird, an early morning session is always another option, and it does have its benefits. Most people who go to the gym in the morning evidently are more likely to stick with their chosen fitness routine. This may well be because the early morning exercise gives them the boost and the feel good factor to deal with the rest of their day. Another good time to get in a session would be lunch time as people are not so inclined to leave work and rush to the gym and back in their well-earned break. If you can manage a session then, you may find that it is the ideal time for you.
Many of the new style of gyms in London may well have a pool, so why not take the plunge and swim a few lengths in relative peace. Swimming is a very good cardio vascular exercise and could be a good substitute for 1 or 2 of your gym sessions.
If none of these options appeal to you, then you are left with a simple choice, either carry on regardless and try to weather the storm of miscellaneous selective visitors out, or go and find yourself a less popular gym.
