Recent statistics about the fitness and wellbeing of the general population does not make very good reading. It demonstrates that there are more and more people who for one reason or another are falling into the category of being overweight.
The figures quoted were truly staggering, citing 46% of men and 32% of women who were deemed to be in this category. If these figures are correct then there are a lot of people who are going to have to make some serious changes to their lifestyle. This is not as bad as it sounds, as even the smallest change that is made can have a very beneficial effect later on down the line. The obvious way to reduce your weight is to stop and take a good hard look at your eating habits.
When you look at what you are eating you need to be aware of the things that you are eating that are not doing you any favours. This does not mean that you have to stop eating the foods that you like; it could simply mean that there are alternative ways of cooking it. What you have to realise is, that if you try and make too many changes to your eating habits in one go, you will be more inclined to cheat on yourself and stray back to your old habits. The answer is to start slowly and make small changes to your eating habits over time, as this way your body will become accustomed them.
If you grill or bake your food instead of frying it, you will find that it tastes the same if not better but it will be better for you. You might also try eating more fruit and vegetables as these are high in fibre, vitamins and minerals all of which will help to protect your body. Another handy tip is to make sure that you do not become dehydrated as this can cause tiredness, as well as headaches. It is important to drink water on a regular basis as apart from the fact that thirst can be mistaken for hunger, it helps to flush your system of unwanted toxins and waste products. Many people join a health club, as this gives them the opportunity to exercise at a pace that suits them in comfortable surroundings. This is a great idea as exercising as well as changing your eating habits can only have a positive effect on your body.
The important thing is obviously to know your limitations, and listen to your body, as it knows best when you have done enough. This again is just a matter of everything in moderation as little and often is better than battling away for an hour and felling totally wrecked afterwards
If you can stick to these new habits, and it will become easier as time goes by, then you really will be doing your body a huge favour. The fact that you have made the effort to eat healthier and joined a health club, could well mean that you will no longer be in the dreaded overweight category, with the added bonus that you will feel a lot better about yourself, and rightly so.
