Exercise is good, it gives your body the stimulation that it needs, and if done correctly can make you feel like a new person. To most this is not a problem, but according to recent figures, more people would benefit from regular exercise including those with arthritis and the seemingly increasing amount of people who are classed as overweight.
The hardest thing about starting out on a new exercise regime is actually taking that all important first step. Once you have done this, everything that you do after it will seem like a walk in the park by comparison.
As long as you approach your exercising in a sensible manner, there is nothing to stop you reaching whatever standard that you choose for yourself. Obviously with this in mind it is best to start out at a gentle pace and slowly over time increase the amount of effort that you put in and you will find that it becomes easier.
In general, exercise falls into three basic types of exercise, and it doesn't matter whether you go to one of the bigger London gyms, or your local family run gym, they will always be the same. The three are flexibility, strengthening and cardiovascular, and although it may seem like a lot to take in, it really is not as difficult as you might think to incorporate into your routine.
Flexibility exercises are basically stretching exercises that target the two groups of muscles at work when you are doing them. These are the protagonist which cause the movement to occur and the antagonistic which determines the amount of flexibility.
Strengthening exercise is basically what most people seem to do at gyms today, and that is weight training. The reason that it is so popular is because it is the best way to increase your muscle size and of course bulk, giving you the sleek toned look that many would give their right arm for, whilst having the added benefit of reducing your body fat. The third, cardiovascular is often considered by those in the know to be the most important area. This is high impact exercise that gets your heart rate up quicker than low or no impact exercises and can help you to burn off some serious calories. Strangely enough, there are so many of these to choose from that the one that you feel most comfortable with and enjoy the most will be the right one for you. To start with there is running which if you think about it you can do almost anywhere, and what about a spot of cycling. The good thing about cycling is that you can actually incorporate it into your everyday lifestyle by riding to work if you can.
Swimming is another great way to exercise as it is a full body exercise, and as with the others, the more parts of your body that you are using, the more calories you will burn. The list goes on, you might want to try step aerobics, the rowing machine, the ever popular elliptical trainer or for those who fancy something a little bit different kick boxing.
Whatever workout you choose to do and wherever you do it , never lose sight of why you are doing it and above all exercise safely. For more information about joining a London gym, visit the Fitness First website at http://www.fitnessfirst.co.uk/gyms-in-london.aspx.
