What is the best way to protect your health? It is by securing your future.
So we go out and get a thousand pounds of food to hold in storage in case of a natural disaster or some sort of cataclysmic event of some kind. This is a very good idea, if you want to be independent.
But the problem is many people do not know what it is they should store up on. A lot of people make the same stupid mistake of not having any variety.
All the get is wheat, which is good, except that many people are allergic to it and don't find out until they have eaten it for a few days straight. Another thing about wheat is that it is too harsh on children's weak stomach.
This causes appetite fatigue, their stomachs get so overwhelmed with the pressure of wheat that they don't even desire to eat anything at all. This is an unhealthy little dilemma, and would become a great deal more serious if it happened during a great time of crisis.
So you need to build up a great deal of variety in your food storage. Instead of just wheat, get grains of all kinds, rice and noodles and all manner of grain.
I would recommend you get a variety of beans too, this is going to give all those grains of you're a good flavor. And it will provide you with the protein you will need.
I imagine if there was a time where people had to start living off food storage, it would be the ones that could adapt and start growing or hunting for food that would survive and thrive. These people would probably have a decent amount of protein in their diets.
So if you don't want your family to fall by the way side you should probably pack up on beans. Even if you don't like them, in times of severe crises you are not allowed to be picky.
Be sure to store your food properly. I have seen tons of food be thrown away because it wasn't stored right.
Get yourself buckets that are vacuumed sealed. This should keep freshness.
Also canned food can live for a good amount of time, I would stock up on lots of canned food as well. The stuff in those cans is going to make all that other wheat and bean storage actually edible.
So find some good cans and refresh your stock about every five years. Because canned foods usually don't last forever like some of the vacuumed sealed grains we have.
There is nothing really better than piece of mind. That's what I found, and that is why I have a sturdy two year food storage collection. Destry Masterson is a health and nutrition expert. She publishes articles for http://www.foodstoragereviews.com and recommends them for food storage.
