It is a sad fact of life that all across the nation people are getting bigger and that doesn't unfortunately mean taller, it refers to the fact that a growing number are now in the overweight or obese category. The midlands seem to be the hot spot, as figures suggest that well over a quarter of men are obese and almost half of the rest are overweight. The ladies in this area didn't fare much better with about the same percentage obese, and around a third of the rest overweight.
These figures, and they will be much the same all across the country, really do show that there is a real need for something to be done. Strangely enough, it doesn't really matter what the government department and medical institutions preach, the bottom line is if you are in this category you are the only one that can start to do something about it.
The figures highlighted the midlands, but you can bet your bottom dollar that just about every gym in Birmingham will have the facilities to help these people to help themselves. It is just a matter of getting your head around the problem in hand and making yourself do something positive about it. The biggest cause of obesity and excess weight is simply two things, eating too much food, and more importantly not doing any exercise. If you take the time to stop and take a good look at your lifestyle, you should be able to see where the problems are.
A good idea is to write down exactly what you consume in an average 24 hour period, and then take a look at it in the cold light of day. As long as you are truthful with yourself, you will be taking the first small step on the long road to a better and healthier lifestyle. Most people would find it relatively easy to make one or two simple changes to their food intake that would be a great way to start.
A popular misconception is that it is a good idea to give breakfast a miss, not so, as after a long period without food your blood sugar levels will be low. This in turn can mean that your body starts to crave something usually something sweet, and this is when you fall foul of the unhealthy snack. It has been said that breakfast is the most important meal of the day as it gives your metabolism the kick start that it needs to keep you going until lunchtime. If you control the amount of food that you eat, you are helping your body at the same time as it doesn't have to work as hard to process it. If you treat your body with respect, it will repay you many times over and help you to achieve the all-important weight loss.
There is also the little matter of exercise, and if you can spend some time on a regular basis at the gym in Birmingham then that would be better for you. If you don't feel ready to face that yet, doing any type of exercise will be greatly beneficial to you, even walking will help.
The idea is to get your body used to having less food and more exercise in the best way to suit you. It doesn't matter how long it takes, the longer you do it the easier it becomes and the easier it becomes, the better you feel about yourself. The better that you feel about yourself the more you will want to carry on doing it, simple.
