Mantras have been used for many centuries as a way of improving mental and physical health. They are a great way of doing so too, if I do say so myself.
But many people do not realize the negative effects of bad mantras. Many people will tell themselves that they can't, when there is a strong possibility that they could.
Telling yourself that you are going to grow six feet tall, when your parents are both midgets, is probably not the proper use of a mantra. But consoling yourself that your height is good for you and that you should be comfortable with it, now that is what mantras are good for.
These do not make magical things happen, they just help you to change and control your attitude about specific things. Getting mantras can change a great deal of your life, just give it a chance.
Especially when working out, mantras can be particularly affective. Have you ever had a personal trainer yelling at you to do "one more" or "push it", and then you should know that it comes with some hidden motivation.
When these people yell at our faces mid workout, for some reason it makes us try harder. Why weren't we trying harder to begin with?
Well you can learn to yell in your own face, using mantras is the key. So when you are sitting at the butterfly press, all you need to do is start yelling "one more!"
Maybe not immediately once you sit down, but after you have done a few and you need the extra gain. Eventually you will learn to yell in your head, this is an extremely useful skill.
Yelling out loud can often be embarrassing; yelling in your head, no own can hear you. Unless you work out near telepaths; but even if you did, I bet plenty of people would be thinking much more incriminating and embarrassing thoughts.
So, so far mantras can help us to become more confident and increase our performance. That is good to know, because what if you need a little extra boost or something.
But on the other hand many people have a bad habit of holding to negative mantras even though they may not realize it. Some people may habitually refer to themselves as stupid, or ugly.
This only helps to lower self-esteem and self-expectations. So you actually are going to fail faster or give up easier, if you are telling yourself constantly that you can't do something.
It all boils down to the little engine that could. I think his name was Thomas, but I don't remember.
Anyway this train had the right idea about a good mantra. And because of it he pulled a huge load up a mountain.
Be like a little freight train with a good personality. It will increase the quality of your life. Destry Masterson is an author who has written hundreds of articles. She publishes articles for http://www.nordictrack.com and recommends them for treadmills.
