Glamour muscles basically consist of three areas: your chest, your abs, and your biceps. These are the three most noticeable areas of a person, and usually we can assume whether or not someone is fit or healthy by looking at these areas.
It is not actually necessary that we be able to lift fifty pounds in one arm, but we like to so that people see how good we look. The main reasons we are working out is to look good, unless you are in some lifting competitions or something.
Not that looking good doesn't take work, in fact it does, quite a bit of work actually. But we can specifically target the areas we want to develop if we know how to work out properly.
There are a few mantras you should learn to repeat before you start exercising. The first one is "through the burn not to the burn". The next is "one more" and you can also incorporate, "push it". These are very helpful when trying to build muscle.
I remember trying to work out without these, and basically I sucked. Now that you have your mantras it is time to learn what exercises to do.
For your chest you are going to want to work the dip machine and the butterfly machine. Use the butterfly machine first, and rip as many reps as you can.
You should feel a tight squeeze in your pectoral muscles from this. On the last rep right before you give out, hold it as long as you can at a good half way point in between the first and last position of the exercise.
This point where you are struggling to hold your arms out is when you are going to start building the most muscle. You want to feel the strain in your chest, and once you feel that you cannot possibly do any more just try for "one more".
That is the benefit of using machines you can work to complete fail, which will rip your muscle much deeper than using weights and lifting will. On the other hand, weights and lifting will affect a wider area of muscle.
But we are not trying to develop wide areas of muscle we are just trying to look good, so sticking with the machines for now will work fine. Although, to develop a good stomach, you are going to need to do a lot of cardio, so before and after each round in the gym run a mile on the treadmill or do a few laps in the pool.
For your biceps however, I found that dumbbells are the most effective to start out with. Once you cannot lift any more then move to the machines to finish your muscles off.
