When you weight train you are training your muscle to expand and grow big, which is good if you are a pretty boy and only care about your looks rather than functional use of muscles. You see, when you weight lift you isolate your muscles, so you are doing a great job of training your body to do one motion; but when you work in a gymnasium you are working every muscle in your body in every imaginable way.
Not only are gymnasium workouts going to do a great deal for your strength and appearance, but it is also going to be a fun way to exercise. There is nothing better than jumping around on a trampoline or swinging of a bar into a foam pit.
And with a little practice you can turn the tumble mat into the greatest place on earth. Every exercise in a gym is going to be a body weight exercise.
Body weight exercises are the best way to actually build internal and functional strength. Have you ever seen those gymnast in the Olympics, they don't have ridiculously huge muscles like body builders; but you can bet your bottom they are doing things that those body builders couldn't even dream of.
Exercising by use of your body rather than external machine is going to create tension that reverberates through your entire body, thus affecting all the core muscles that improve internal functioning, including organ utilities. No lie, doing body weight exercises actually improves your internal organs, and your joints too for that matter.
It is very easy to directly impact specific areas that you are looking to target. For example if you are trying to work your pectoral muscles, you should try using the rings or the high bar.
Pectorals are glamour muscles and the kinds you see on television are probably really good for pushing a bar with 150 pounds straight up and down. But those toned hard looking square chests that the acrobats have, are the kind that are going to make it possible to do a double fly away from the rings.
So it is really a question of what you want. Do you want to look strong or do you want to be strong?
The question only you can answer. Personally I like a happy medium; twice a week I like working the gym with weights, then twice a week I like working at the gymnasium.
Both are good for your health, just one is a little better for health and one is a little better for looks. I would strongly advocate joining a parkour or gymnastics class.
