Milk is a common drink among children in public schools; every day each kid is administered one eight ounce carton of milk. You may think that isn't a lot of milk.
Your right it definitely isn't. luckily some of the cooler kids that are also a bit taller and more attractive than the others will be given an extra milk carton for sucking up to the lunch lady.
Even though it isn't a lot of milk it still packs quite a bit of nutrients. When I was assigned to write an article on milk, "I thought what is so special about milk".
Well the truth may astound you, unless you're a nutrition expert and already know everything; in that case I would assume you probably already have been astounded by the qualities of milk. In just one meager eight ounce carton of milk, do you know what nutrients there are?
I will tell you, there is as much vitamin A as two hard boiled eggs. Vitamin A is that special nutrient that helps children to develop amazing eye sight, usually people try to get it from eating carrots, but it would also be could to try to drink a little more milk every now and then.
Everyone assumes the huge amounts of calcium to be the only thing that helps the bones in our bodies, but actually what makes milk so affective in bone strength is the phosphorous that synergistically works with the calcium. In fact, if you do not get the proper amount of phosphorous you will start to feel pain in your joints, and your bones will become fragile and weak.
Speaking of bone strength remember when mentioned calcium, well milk is the calcium king. In one of those ridiculously small cartons of milk, there is as much calcium as there would be in ten cups of raw spinach.
Can you believe that? And I always thought that spinach had quite a bit of calcium.
It has also got the potassium content equivalent to a small banana. I know small is a relative term, so within your batch of bananas take the smallest one and then just assume there is an equal amount of potassium in your banana as there is in your little cup of milk.
Vitamin D is another major player in bone strength and does a bit for other functions in your body too. The amount of Vitamin D is comparable to that of three fourths of an ounce of salmon.
So in summation milk is one of the most magical and delicious substances on earth. Even though some people will say, "Isn't it weird that people are the only creatures that drink milk after infancy?"
Well not really, because people are the only creatures with the means and capability to drink milk beyond infancy. So there you have it, start drinking more milk, but try to get the un-homogenized stuff, its way better for you. Destry Masterson is a health and nutrition expert.
