Building muscle and losing weight can be hard to accomplish, especially if you are alone. How do you stay motivated with no one to help?
A lot of us can't, and for that reason working in groups is a necessity. The benefit of working of a group is obvious, but slightly embarrassing at the same time.
We are concerned about what other people think; so even though we would really like to stop when the instructor says, "pick it up" we do pick it up. There have been many psychological tests and studies that show humans (you and I) to be social animals.
This means are behavioral traits change drastically when we are alone than when we are in front of people. There are also studies that show motivation to be contagious or at lease contagiously acted upon.
In a study done with a group of people watching a presentation, there were some planted clappers in the test group and no planted clappers in the control group. The entire test group clapped vigorously when directed by the clapper.
Not trying to say we are mindless drones without will power, but as people (me and you) we have a genetic disposition to follow in groups. So if you are trying to take more from your workout get into a group class.
There are aerobic classes, there are yoga classes, and there are even classes that are meant to be fun like zumba. All of these make use of other people's motivation to make you perform better.
It is nothing to be ashamed about; you can share motivation if you want to. It isn't like it's a big deal, and as long as you really do want to exercise then it will only be a benefit to you.
But if you cannot afford a class, find a friend who also wants to work out and become fit. Having someone there to push you beyond your comfort zone is going to increase your gain momentously.
Plus if you find an exercise partner of the opposite sex, exercise partner can lead to other more exciting things. Which I know your species loves to build relations.
Start out just running with your friend, this will be a great way to start doing other things with her. Building cardio is necessary for weightlifting workouts and also losing weight.
After you two have become comfortable enough to run on a trail together take her out. Moving your exercise location to a gym can be very beneficial, because it will give you a variety of new exercises which may have been unavailable before.
So in summation, use people to motivate you to a better workout, or just find one person in particular and use them. This is good for your human health.
