What do all middle-class white toddlers have in common? Yes, they all love string cheese.
Now parents, I am sure you are concerned about whether or not this is good for those kids of yours. Well there are a lot of different contributing factors to good or bad, so I will explain the pros and cons and you can make an informed decision about your children's diet.
String cheese is definitely good in many ways. It is going to give you a bunch of calcium, and vitamin a, without giving you too many calories.
This is because each portion of cheese comes sectioned off in a one ounce package, and has about only 100 calories to it. This is a relatively good snack even for adults, even though it is tiny.
This is much more of a child's food. Children need a lot more calories than adults do, and the calcium couldn't hurt them either.
String cheese is usually made of mozzarella and the reason people love it is because of its unique pull and peel eating methods. Some prudent adults will grow out of pulling of thinner bits of this cheese, but that is only a matter of pride.
Really these people are trying to show that they do not indulge in such childish activities such as peeling cheese. Truth is, when you peel the cheese into smaller bits, it actually does taste better.
I have done countless experiments on this and results are conclusive. When you peel the string cheese it actually gets a better taste.
This is because too thick of a portion of mozzarella cheese can be overwhelming for your mouth. So never act too prideful to peel your cheese, you are only hurting yourself.
Down side to this treat is that it is packed with sodium. So, all of you who suffer from high cholesterol have two different options when it comes to cheese.
First option, do not eat string cheese this is going to make you gain weight and also raise your blood pressure. Second option, you could let your string cheese sit in water for a little while.
This will pull some of that sodium out of your string cheese, but after soaking you cheese you will have one soggy cheese stick. So it is a kind of win/lose situation, and I don't know if it is really worth it to eat cheese if it is sopping wet.
Although no one can make your mind for you, so that choice is completely up to you. Oh and FYI, microwaving your string cheese is a bad idea.
If you think it is going to make peeling it easier or tasting it better, well you might be right about the latter. But usually within seconds of a microwave this soft mozzarella is melted to a puddle of boiling cheese. Destry Masterson is a health and nutrition expert.
