Although it might only seem like a small point to some, choosing a new gym is in fact a decision that needs to have a lot of time devoted to it, as if you're paying for a membership to Birmingham gyms and you're attending five nights a week, for instance, you need to be certain that the gym you've chosen is the one that's best suited to your needs.
With various points to consider, many of which will be based around your own individual needs and preferences, the following five points should all be considered and thought of as a base guide to follow when choosing a new gym.
1. Price - no matter how much you think the cost of the membership shouldn't affect your decision, for most people up and down the UK, it will be a point that they have to consider strongly, as although certain gyms in the country that some people consider to be the best cost 500 pounds a month to attend, people might only be able to afford 20 pounds a month for a membership.
The cost of membership does vary widely and so it's important to remember that just because you might not be able to afford to head to one gym, it doesn't mean that you can't afford to go to another.
2. Location - simply put, if you want to ensure that you head to the gym as much as possible, you need to make sure that any gym you choose is either near your home or work or on the route to either of these places.
The reason behind this is if you have to go out of your way to get to Birmingham gyms, for example, although you might be happy to do so during the summer months when it's warm and the evenings are long, come winter and you're going to find it difficult to even get out of your car, never mind take a detour home to get to the gym.
3. Equipment - generally speaking, most gyms will have a similar level of equipment for you to use and so the point you need to look at here is not necessarily what equipment they have to offer, but its condition.
Does the equipment look new or old? Does it appear to be well-maintained or is it falling apart? Is it clean or dirty?
Simply put, you need to be looking for the newest, best maintained and cleanest equipment possible.
4. Facilities - many years ago, gyms were simply places where you would attend to exercise, have a shower and then go home. Today, however, many of the major gyms offer facilities above and beyond what would be classed as traditional and therefore it's always a good idea to see what extra facilities the gyms you're looking at offer as the cost of the membership could cover more than just the use of the equipment.
5. Staff - while you're not likely to interact with the staff at the gym on a regular, continual basis, it's always good to know that there are people who you can rely upon to answer your questions or help you with certain exercises should you need them and it's therefore advised that you consider how experienced and professional the staff at the gyms are.
If you're looking to join a new gym, don't rush into the process and instead take your time, do your research and be sure to consider the five points mentioned here.
