Weight training is a really good way to start building mass fast. You are not going to become a body builder from just doing pushups and sit ups all day.
Body weight exercises are great for lean, strong muscle, but unfortunately they do not pack mass like isolation exercises do. So here is what you are going to have to do, hit the gym.
Your town should have a local rec. center you can go to if you are too poor to afford a gym membership, but by paying money monthly you kind of buying extra initiative, and you need to get your money's worth.
So that is a good reason to start paying money, to obligate yourself into doing it. If you do one day at the gym you will feel the affect immediately after.
Using the gym will provide a great advantage for your pectorals and your biceps, these two areas of the body are the hardest to exercise without using any external equipment. So when you are doing bench presses or similar workouts you can get a lot better results than you could just doing pushups at home.
But there are some precautions that must be taken into account, make sure you have a spotter you do not want to accidently drop the weight on your neck and choke to death. Well there aren't many cases, but it does occasionally happen that there is a fatal accident with the weights in gyms.
So be sure you have a spotter, a spotter is going to help your through the exercise. He will not hold any of the weight unless he sees that you are starting to lose control, and then he will help you to lift it and set it back on the collar.
The collar is where the bar will rest in place. It is strongly recommended that your find yourself a spotter when you are doing weight training.
Not only because they will help prevent accidents, but they will also help you get a better exercise. You will see you will be able to push yourself further when you have someone take a little of the weight on the last few reps.
You should be able to work almost to failure here, but not completely. After you have done the weights move to the machine.
Here a spotter is helpful, just for moral support and helping to push you to complete failure. In case you don't know failure is when you work to the point that you cannot do any more reps.
Reaching failure is actually a good thing, though it may sound bad to the untrained ear. That is what is good about machines; you can work toward failure without fear of losing control.
