Common misconception: if you want to build muscle you have to lift huge weights, and if you want to tone muscle you lift little weights. Well this is partially true, but there are better ways to tone muscles than lifting little weights.
To build muscle we have to rip it apart and let it repair. That is the process to building bulk and becoming huge.
But if we are trying to tone our muscles to be cut and powerful, what do we do? We the truth is, the most effective way to tone muscle is by doing the same routine you do for building muscle.
I'm not joking, but instead of working to failure just do a few less reps. You see, the most crucial part, when it comes to muscle building, is the last three reps.
If you really want to see results you have to push it to the end, then do one more and hold it. If you are not feeling the burn in your muscles, than you are not getting the right workout.
When it comes to muscle toning, however, things are done a bit differently. We are not usually trying to bulk up, but drop weight instead.
Most of what we are trying to do is make our muscles more visible without actually making them any bigger. This is going to be done by aerobic exercises.
So you have to understand what it is you want to accomplish. Do you want your muscles to be stronger without being bigger, of do you want your muscles to be more apparent without bulking up?
For the first option you will want to work the same routine as the muscle building routine, except you will omit the last two reps. If you are just trying to lose weight, lighter weights will be easier for aerobic and cardio carb blasting exercises.
If you just want to lose weight, you should take up lots of jogging and maybe order one of the firms exercise videos. Though, the most effective way to tone your muscles is through HIIT (high intensity interval training).
This is done by running as hard as you can rather than as long as you can. By doing this you will burn up to three times as much fat than you would by jogging.
Besides that you are going to be increasing your heart rate to levels that are very beneficial for muscle development. HIIT will utilize fat storage long after you are done exercising.
Where aerobic exercise burn fat while you do the exercise, these exercises to much more. It is good to have a healthy balance between them both though.
