There is a lot you can do to increase the quality of your workouts, from listening to driving music to getting the proper amount of sleep the night before. Most importantly, though, you can eat the proper foods and get the proper nutrients.

Protein is the key component when it comes to muscle gain. Without precious protein you would just be a scrawny little guy stuck at fifty pounds under the bench press.

You are going to need to get the right protein for before and after your workouts. They not only will be synthesized into muscle mass, but they will also give you energy for the exercise.

For max energy though, you are going to need to eat some healthy carbs. These are going to provide good energy to support you throughout the entire day.

Energy from protein lasts only a few hours, so it is good to get a bit of protein before you start your exercise for an extra little boost, but it is important to make sure you get a good wheat bread breakfast. This is going to change the way you feel through the whole day.

It is good to get some sort of supplemental shake mix or powder to promote muscle growth. Most popular is the whey protein powder, and this is great for a daily shake to get you a good amount of protein.

But for greater intensity and an optimized workout, you want to get some intra-workout supplements. These are drinks that are high in electrolytes to maintain hydration, rich in amino acids for protein synthesis and high in carbohydrates to promote energy.

These are going to give your workout routine a real boost and will help you to train long and harder, so that you get results faster. It is also important to get good post-workout nutrition.

After your workout you are going to want to get more water to flush excess protein and carbs from your digestive tract, and also you will want to get a good amount of amino acids. These will aid in protein synthesis but will also aid in the decomposition of lactic acid in the muscle.

That means you won't feel as sore from your workout. It is good to get a lot of food when you are trying to bulk up.

Once you have gained weight, then it is time to start going to regular eating habits and toning your muscles. You do not want to have big squishy muscles, but rather hard muscles that look like they were chiseled from granite.

So once you are a good weight, start eating low fat foods and less protein. Once the muscles are there you only need calories to maintain them, protein becomes unnecessary.
