One of the effective ways that you can potentially lose your love handles is to reduce your food intake. However, that's not really the best option. Starving your body of the nutrients it needs will leave you fatigued, cranky and hungry. It will also cause your body to start burning lean muscle for fuel too, not just fat.
A Better Plan!
A better plan is to simply eat a healthy diet, but exercise to burn off some extra calories each day. Exercise can increase your lean muscle mass and decrease your body fat over time. However, you need to have a concrete exercise plan and stick to it. One slow walk a month won't do.
What you really need is at least a half hour of intense exercise every other day or so to lose that love handles. It's even better if you can get some exercise every single day. So, the next time you plan to take an elevator, try the stairs instead.
Walk your dog around the neighborhood. Ride a bike to work instead of driving your car. Do what you need to do to stay more active and your love handles should disappear in time, but not overnight.
