When we run there are around 26 bones that are put under pressure, there are 33 joints, and more than 100 ligaments that all work in conjunction to keep us moving forward. The simple act of walking requires some pretty advanced mechanics.
Luckily for us we do not have to think about every single joint and ligament that must be used for an average stroll around the block. If we did, well I don't think a lot of use would even be able to walk.
Because simply walking requires so many muscles; and for that reason, it burns a lot of calories. I doubt very much that you have seen professional runners that are fat.
I don't mean fat in a derogatory sense either. I am actually quite fat; though you probably can't tell on account of you are reading an article and not viewing a video.
So like I was saying, walking and using your legs is going to require a lot of energy. Each of those muscles that are being activated is going to require fuel to work.
Where are you going to get that fuel from? We get that fuel from calories.
There are two types of calories: the fat calories which we store in our bodies for emergency, and then there are also the calories we get from food. I like to make sure to keep the emergency calorie store, so I eat a lot to be sure I have readily available calories to burn from food.
However if you don't want to be a gargantuan whale of a man, as am I, then you will want to start burning fat calories. Do this by taking account of how many calories you burn and how many you take in; this is called the in and out ratio.
If you are burning more calories than you are ingesting then you will eventually lose weight, just an additional 15 calories each day can be end up as one pound over a year. Contrarily, eating four pistachios will give you 15 calories, so eating four pistachios above your calorie max is going to cause you to gain a pound of fat in a year.
If you want to burn calories just take a few steps. Taking ten steps is going to burn a calorie, so taking one hundred and fifty steps is going to burn off those four pistachios.
It really isn't that much if you think about it. I take almost two hundred steps each day, and I have no problem maintaining my weight.
I take about 50 steps to get to my front door and from there another 50 to get to my car, so back and forth from my room to my car is about 20 calories. That is without even trying.
