I'm the type of gal that doesn't like to exercise, I would much rather sit around in the living room and order delivery food. What can I say... except maybe, don't judge me.
Yes, I am who I am. During an extra relaxing day watching Heroes on Netflix, after I just got the box that connects Netflix straight to my television, I decided I needed a snack.
So I paused the program, walked up the seven stairs, waddled over to the fridge, grabbed the tub of ice cream and worked my way back to my sofa. By the time I hit resume on the remote control, I realized that my heart beat had increased significantly.
My first reaction was, "oh great I already got my workout for the day". But as I watched the fit and athletic bodies of Hayden and Milo masquerade around South California I began to think, "oh my gosh, am I out of shape?". Like I said, I am not one for exercise. It is something that simply doesn't interest me.
So I began thinking of ways I could get a slender fit body, like my heroes, without exerting any physical energy. I finished my ice cream, because well, I couldn't do anything to start losing weight while cradling a carton of ice cream in my hands.
The first thing I knew I had to do, was stop eating so much ice cream, which was easy enough being that I am lactose intolerant and most the time ice cream really upsets my stomach. I soon realized that dieting alone would not cause me to lose the weight I wanted. However, I wasn't about to give up my television programs. So I got a bounce mat, or a rebounder.
I basically figured if I bounced up and down enough my flabs of fat would flap right off. Turns out I was basically right, but also completely wrong.
Fat doesn't just fall off, it takes a tremendous amount of work to lose weight. While using the rebounder I could watch television and pretend that I was a hero like Milo, bouncing around fighting bad guys and preventing catastrophic global turmoil.
Immediately, after my first five minute session on the mini tramp, I noticed sore muscles but not joint pain. No joint pain: that's a plus, sore muscles: not a plus.
But losing weight is a give and take: take the pain and give the weight. I talked to my doctor about the rebounder, during one of my routine diabetes checkups.
He said that the bouncing was a great way to build cardio energy, and also that it was going to speed up my metabolism and digestive system. So if I was low on blood sugar I should get some quick snack and bounce it into my blood.
This, he said, would also help me to lose weight. Now 4 months, 3 shows, and a combined total of 11 seasons later, I have lost nearly twenty pounds.
