Studies have shown that simply walking mainly affects the front of the thighs. If you want to tone the whole leg and attain those beautifully sculpted thighs that everyone aims for you need multi-directional walking.
There are some routines you can learn, such as the jag, and the side walk and the backward run. These are going to activate the muscles all around your legs rather than just the front.
Warm up your legs by walking for about three to six minutes. This is just to get the blood flowing.
Now start to incorporate some of the more creative walks. Try walking back and forth in a crisscross leg over leg maneuver and keep it symmetrical.
You wouldn't want to walk sideways to the right all the time and have one extremely toned right leg and a left leg that looks like a mammoth's limp. So take about ten to fifteen steps then reverse the direction and repeat the walk and reverse.
A lot of people are going to feel silly walking briskly to one side and then reversing direction like that. For those of you who do not feel silly that is great, you will quickly start toning your legs.
If you need a little more motivation you can start doing some yoga routines and Pilates. Both of these are going to great ways to start toning not only your whole leg but also your entire body.
You will find a slew of maneuvers that challenge your body right down to the core. I would recommend these routines to anyone who wants to tone their body and become more flexible.
Such classes can cost money, which some of us don't like. For the cheap among us, who still want to tone their legs go dancing.
Dancing is going to activate your legs so long as you actually put some create moves into your steps. That means none of the 80s slow back and forth sway with a single snap every four beats.
If you have seen the videos of the 80s people back then had nothing near as toned thighs as we do now. It is the 21st century it is time to update your dance moves.
I would say you try to incorporate some merengue and cha-cha into the mess of routines. Dancing, aerobic routines, and just simple exercises are all going to do your legs great.
Even better though if you do them all. If you do not want to build muscle, then don't work them till they are sore, but rather until you are tired.
Also to avoid muscle gain, don't eat any protein. You will have skinny legs in no time. Destry Masterson is a health, fitness and nutrition expert. She has written articles about exercise and recommends http://www.proform.com for information about exercise equipment.
