You have probably heard the horror stories about rat tests and boxes of cereal being healthier than cereal itself, or about bloody cow milk being used for chocolate milk. These are probably nothing more than horror stories.
As of now I have not been able to find any credible sources showing that either of those is actually true. However, I did find an article on some experimental rat projects very similar to the one above.
Weston A. Price Foundation did a report on a test including four different groups of rats. First group was fed whole grain with a multivitamin, the second group was fed extruded wheat (cereal) and a multivitamin, the third was fed solely the multivitamin, and the fourth was fed nothing at all.
Each group of rats had an equal amount of water. So which pack of rats do you think was the first to go?
If you guessed the rats that ate nothing then you are wrong. Actually the rats that were fed the cereal died in less than two weeks, much sooner than any of the other rats.
Autopsies on the poor little devils should their pancreases to be torn to shreds, their nerves to be shocked, and their liver and kidneys had been wrecked. All in all it was concluded they had been overwhelmed with insulin.
Interestingly enough, if your pancreas (and when I say your, I mean human's) is shocked with insulin it may stop creating it. This is known as diabetes.
Would rat killing cereal have anything to do with the increased amounts of diabetes in the United States? The answer is most certainly, if you are eating unhealthy foods you are definitely increasing your risk for disease-that is simply a fact.
So the cereal box thing, I don't know if the box is actually better than the cereal but cereal isn't too great to be eating as an everyday meal. Instead of eating cereal in morning, try to eat eggs and whole wheat bread.
Milk has a lot of horror stories surrounding it too. There are the stories of young girls suddenly being overwhelmed with estrogen and other hormones from the cow milk, and the stories of blood from over milking the cow.
I found no real credible information on these. However, again according to the same report done by Weston A. Price Foundation I found that milk when it is pasteurized actually loses close to all of its nutrients.
In nature you should be able to live solely off cow milk. During the pasteurization process there is a lot that changes from that natural cow milk.
They separate the milk into fats, proteins and other solids and liquids. These are then turned into what we know as 1 percent, 2 percent and whole milk.
Because of the huge ordeal that is pasteurization, many people cannot drink milk. That is because the proteins in the milk are so manipulated that instead of drawing nutrients our bodies create an immune response. Destry Masterson is a health and nutrition expert.
