Narcolepsy isn't the most common sleep disorder, but it usually gets pretty severe. One moment you are talking to your boss about a raise then you awake to your co-workers huddled around you giggling because your nervous system just crashed.
This doesn't happen because of stress or anything like that. For some inexplicable reason your brain just is terrible at making hypocretin.
Don't worry; there are tons and tons of different drugs you can legally take to beat narcolepsy. I'm sure you have tried coffee, but for you, it just doesn't work.
You get jittery and then you pass out only to find that your dreams of you finishing work going home and relaxing was just that a dream. So there are a few different "real" drugs none of this Mormon coffee garbage.
The first drug is called piracetem. I took this to see if it really would help with cognitive awareness and memory.
I guess it did a little bit, but I don't have narcolepsy and for those who do you will probably need something a lot stronger. So there is Adderall or Ritalin, really any amphetamine will do.
You see what these do is they stimulate the inhibitory neurons in your brain. You know that part of the brain, where for most people it says, "Don't fall asleep right now", but for some reason doctors can't explain, is broken in you.
Yeah these are great for that. Plus if you have pain problems it takes care of that too, not to mention smoking and drinking while on these are like ten times better.
After taking amphetamines I felt like I could do any mundane task for hours, I could make your common robot look like a piece of garbage next to my swift repetitive and overly controlled actions. So what I did is I went dancing where I did the robot for hours, and had conversations that I totally dominated whilst maintaining my robotic dance moves.
The bad thing about amphetamines is they will cause brain atrophy. So once or twice during a night of binge drinking is fine, you know just to beat your narcolepsy, but if you value your brain don't get a prescription.
There are other drugs made specifically for narcolepsy. For example one that is highly regulated as a wakefulness drug in the US called Provigil.
This one is hard core, it works like the amphetamines but it actually rearranges the chemical structure of the nervous system (you know where your narcolepsy comes from), though it is only temporary. After taking this drug I felt very aware.
So aware in fact that I felt I could react to situations seconds before they even happened. I had become extremely attentive and alert, which was good because that was around the time I realized that everyone was out to get me. Destry Masterson is a health and fitness nut.
