Exercising is easy; it only takes a few things: determination, structure, and endurance. After you have those three things, you are well on your way a happy and fit glorious life of luster and riches... maybe not luster or riches, but definitely glorious healthy life.
Determination that is what is needed before anything else. Decide what it is you want, and why it is you want it.
If you are exercising because you are vain, that is fine. Sad truth of life, attractive people live more successful lives... well it's sad for the unattractive people.
You shouldn't feel ashamed for wanting to look better and working toward it. It is your body and you can do what you want to it, that is the great the about free agency.
Once you have decided you are ready to start changing, start developing a structure. Build a plan around what it is you want, around your objectives.
I would recommend exercising five days out of the week. Of course different goals are going to require different exercises.
Working with a schedule is going to help a lot, but you still have to endure until you have accomplished your goals. Endurance is the best quality you can learn when it comes to any health or fitness related goals.
If you are a beginner here is a good set of workouts you can perform every other day. This will start building some muscle and prepare you for more advanced muscle development.
First thing you are going to do is stretch, this is very important. Stretching is going to prepare your muscle for the exercise to come by pumping them full of blood.
I start with the pushup, do these slowly up and down as controlled as possible, and on your last pushup hold yourself in mid pushup until you completely collapse. The point of burning is where you are going to get most development, both fat burn and muscle gain.
Next is the squats, remember slow and controlled is the best way burn fat and build muscle. The great thing about body weight exercises is that they are going to work your body to the core.
The tension reverberates through every muscle in your body. So while you become stronger you are also becoming leaner, until you start bulking up, but that is hard to do with body weight exercises.
Then do pull ups and then finish the routine with an assortment of abdominal exercises. The abdomen is an area that has more exercises than any one would ever think necessary.
Find exercises that are going to tone the stomach rather than bulk veneer muscles. that way you will get the flat abdomen look, which is the look that is "in".
