Diet Tips For A Healthy Heart

Read 39 times since Tuesday, November 01, 2011

One of the leading causes of death for both men and women today is heart attacks. To decrease your chances of experiencing a heart attack it is best to follow a healthy diet and exercise regularly. What follows are some basic tips on eating right and dieting that will help you lower your chances of both having a heart attack and getting heart diseases.

Less Fat: You should decrease your daily consumption of fats, especially fats coming from meat and milk products, such as steak, milk, cheese, cream, eggs and butter. These types of fats can also be found in various foods with palm and coconut oils. Staying away or substantially lowering these types of foods in your diet will not only decrease your chances on having a heart attack but also reduce your cholesterol levels.

Less Sodium: Though sodium is an essential part of our diet, eating too much of it can be harmful to both our hearts and blood pressure. Much of the sodium we eat derives from the salt some of us constantly add it our food to enhance its flavor. Additionally, many food company products have a high amount of salt in them. Therefore, the best way to reduce our sodium intake is to refrain from adding salt to our meals and to stay away from packaged food unless its sodium levels are low.

More Fiber: Eating more fiber from grains, fruits and vegetables is a great way to lessen the probability of getting heart disease. The fiber that we eat decreases the absorption of fatty acids in the bowel and thus lowers the gaining of weight.

Less Calories: Unfortunately, obesity levels throughout the world have skyrocketed during the past couple of decades. In the United States alone over 70 percent of the population is considered overweight. Obesity and having excess weight can result in a variety of health problems, including heart disease and heart attacks. Decreasing our calorie intake, and thus our lowering our chances of having heart problems, is best done by reducing both high-calorie foods and the amount of food we eat. This, coupled with daily exercise, is an essential part of any healthy diet.

No healthy diet will succeed with daily exercise. Running, walking, riding a bike, playing sports or aerobic, among other activities which gets you heart rate up, combined with a healthy diet will reduce you chances of heart disease and complications.
