Food And Cholesterol Connection

Do you suffer from hypercholesterolemia? No, it is not a psychological condition referring to hypochondriacs worrying about their cholesterol.

It is actually very common and it means that you have high LDL (bad cholesterol) and low HDL (good cholesterol. Bet you didn't know there was two types of cholesterol... you did, oh good for you.

High LDL and low HDL can lead to heart disease, heart attack and even strokes. So even though having poor cholesterol health isn't going to immediately kill you, it will, however, be a contributing factor to whatever does.

Don't worry though, because cholesterol is one of the easiest things to beat. All you have to do is watch what you eat.

I suppose it will be easier for some people than it will be for others. What are some things we should avoid?

Well, eggs are very high in cholesterol they have about 213 mgs in just one large egg. Doctors recommend people with heart disease only eat about 300 mgs of cholesterol in a day, so... don't eat eggs for breakfast lunch or dinner.

Then there are the obvious foods that should be avoided, which never really are. Hamburgers, everybody knows these things are not good for health, but still they remain the number one most eaten food in America.

Second to hamburgers or maybe first, fries. These things are basically deep fried heart attacks with ketchup on the side.

Or I suppose you could call them blood clot wedges depending on the type of fry you ordered. Hamburgers and fries are in cahoots together trying to rid the world of healthy hearts.

Actually that is just one crazy conspiracy theory. Neither hamburgers nor fries have the mental capacity or even consciousness to plot against some of the humans most vital of organs.

Other foods that you should never touch when you are suffering from heart disease: muffins, lobster, steak, just about all the world's delicacies... except muffins, nobody is worried about people ever eating those.

So you know what not to eat now, but what can you eat? Nothing!

Just kidding, there are plenty of foods that are going to help raise your HDL and lower your LDL. For instance even though you can't eat fattening steak, getting some good lean red meat is actually going to boost your good cholesterol.

And even though you can't have lobster, you can have fish. Now I know that it seems like you have to live life like a middle class American... well you kind of do.

Sorry to say it, but after a while you get used to it. That doesn't mean that you have to move to a cul-de-sac in a suburb area, although that might help.
