One third of your life is going to be used to sleep, unless you are an insomniac. It is vitally important that you use your time to sleep for your health's sake.
Either you are going to spend a third of your life sleeping, or you will spend your life in a dream like insomnia and die thirty percent sooner than a healthy sleeper. Sleep is going to do more for you than any exercise and any diet.
I am not joking, of course exercise is going to make you strong, but not without the proper sleep to go along with it. Dieting will make you healthy, but again, not without the proper rest.
Sleep is nature's way of recovery. Whatever self-inflected abuse you went through during the day is going to be healed during sleep.
Whether you are a binge drinker destroying brain cells as you work your way through college or a body builder tearing muscles apart so that they will grow bigger, you need time for recovery. When we sleep we actually shut down different areas of our brain and reinforce them through the night and the same goes with muscle but it is a bit different.
Muscles during rest have time to synthesize protein and manufacture new muscle fiber, thus creating muscle growth. But something more spectacular happens during sleep.
As we are sleeping we are reinforcing our brain just like we do with the muscles, and in case you're not aware the brain is very important. Everything we do happens from synapse in the brain: every breath, movement and thought.
Muscle memory develops during sleep. The reason a gymnast can do back flips without periodically falling on their face, is because they have practiced and rehearsed them over and in their sleep.
Everything you do during the day is going to be replayed in your head during sleep. Sleep is basically time to download what you have learned through the day and incorporate it into your own database of knowledge.
The best investment in your future would be proper sleep. When you feel like sleep is a waste of time, remember that nature creates no waste and sleep is no different.
Aside from learning and becoming a better person, sleeping is going make you pretty. Have you heard the term beauty sleep, well it is true.
As we repair our bodies we actually repair our skin tissue and make it look nice and silken for day time. I would bet you that every famous actress and model all get a good amount of sleep just by the fact of how beautiful they are. Destry Masterson is a health and fitness nut.
