Calories are going to be fuel, like a coal train your muscles are going to burn those calories for energy. The thing about losing weight though is working to lose fat reserve.
This means you are going to have to start burning more calories than you are taking in. And starving yourself doesn't work, because that just freezes fat loss completely.
So keep up a healthy diet, with enough food to get your body the nutrients it needs. This is the only healthy way to lose weight.
You may want to build some muscle, and if this is the case things are going to be a bit different depending on what you want. Building muscle is going to require specific exercises and an increased consumption of proteins.
You are actually working to tear your muscles apart while you exercise, and then the proteins consumed through the day are going to rebuild the muscles a bit stronger. This is going to require a lot more caloric intake.
If you are looking to gain muscle you are going to have to start eating more food. You can't have the muscle unless you are getting the proper fuel.
