If you are an objectivist you will say that anything promoting life is going to be good. If you are Christian you will say life is a gift and should be respected.
In both cases fitness is going to benefit life, which everyone can agree is good. The only people who do not believe that live is of value are seriously misdirected and likely confused.
There are a few different reasons to workout. There are actually lots of reasons if you want to get into specifics, but dealing with categories is easier.
The first is for the body. Now Christians may think this to be the least noble cause to exercise, and they may even consider it vain.
But in the eyes of society having a great body is a great thing. As it turns out people who have healthy looking bodies are usually considered to be more attractive than others.
People who are more attractive get treated better than those who are not. Sorry that is a fact of life, denying it doesn't change a thing.
If you are not going to exercise to become more physically attractive, do it for sport. Enhancing ability in sports and extracurricular abilities can be a very rewarding.
Exercise actually is beneficial for the mind too. If you are suffering from any sort of psychosis or psychiatric disease, simply exercising is going to help you.
What happens is there are a number of chemicals that are released and created when exercising, such as epinephrine, dopamine, serotonin and other chemical endorphins. These are scientifically proven to be beneficial to the brain.
Lastly exercise is going to be good for the soul. People who exercise tend to be happier more well-rounded people.
Those who do not exercise usually are unhappy and even live in worse conditions. Working-out shows that you care about yourself.
Having self-esteem is a necessity of life. According to Maslow's hierarchy of needs, you need to have some sort of self-esteem or respect before you can have any moral premise.
Now for the good of mankind and of for the betterment of yourself start working your muscles. You will start to see improvements in every aspect of your life.
Not only will people start noticing that you could easily pummel them, and, accordingly, treat you differently because of that, but you will also start to feel better. Having a healthy strong body is going to be great for how you feel.
So even though people will cower in fear as you walk by, you will feel no need to assert your dominance you will be at peace. This is the true beauty of exercise.
